Government Information

Madagascar was once an autocracy under the rule of aTerraAustralis. Cloaked Eagle resumed leadership a month after the nation was formed, and established a Constitutional Monarchy. From previously being a political dictatorship, Cloaked Eagle implemented reforms to pursue a democratic society. A parliament with ministers was created to manage sectors of national interest such as infrastructure, along with the appointment of Chancellors to assist the Monarch in the day to day running of Madagascar

The King/Queen’s Cabinet was two-fold and made up of trusted nation residents, who were the top advisors to the King and Queen. The first group hold the in-game title ‘Chancellor’.  Chancellors are chosen solely by the King and Queen. The Cabinet was also made up of a group of ministers, who are elected by the people.  These ministers constituted and oversaw the inter-working's of the nation’s most important departments: Defense, Economics, Ecology, Foreign Affairs, Culture, and Infrastructure.

As activity took a dip in mid-2020, not enough players were present to fulfil all of the governmental roles and so the August 2020 elections were cancelled partway though, and elections simply didn't resume, mainly down to lack of the desire for them by the majority of Madagascans. As a result, the Chancellors became the sole government officials within Madagascar and Madagascar quietly became an Oligarchy, with it's "government" consisting only of a core of unelected Chancellors, handpicked and lead by the King or Queen, connected to either Royalty or the Admiralty (Naval High Command), who are the sole rulers of the entire nation, who have complete discretion over both internal and foreign affairs in Madagascar, who's word is rule.

Madagascar is currently a joint Monarchy-Admiralty Oligarchy of unelected Chancellors. This method of governing is incredibly stable and causes Madagascar to feel much more like a community of players rather than a nation, at the cost of preventing normal players from having a say in how the community is managed, for the most part. There are plans to create a "government" consisting of elected players, but this would be entirely community-oriented and would not have a major impact on current national policies and how the nation is ruled (for example, there will be no foreign ministry nor an economic ministry, but there would be ministries for culture and infrastructure.)

Nation Leaders, King/Queen

For the majority of the time, Madagascar is jointly lead by Queen PoppyKai and King CloakedEagle. In-game leadership flips back and forth between the two whenever required, such as if one needed to leave Sainte-Marie temporarily.

_Krazy_ was the sole King for just under 3 months between June 15th 2020 and September 14th 2020 when Poppy wanted a break from the constant hassle that comes from being leader of Madagascar, the hassle coming mostly from players outside of Madagascar.

Foreign Policy

Madagascar's Foreign Policy follows a concept called 'Peace in Neutrality, Neutrality in Peace' where Madagascar is willing to allow any and every nation to ally in-game so that players from almost every nation may tp to trade, no matter the alliances and rivalries anywhere else in the server, so long as a nation's resident(s) do not cause problems towards Madagascar such as killing in claims using fireworks, killing in the wilderness, stealing and scamming Madagascans etc etc. As a result, Madagascar does not enter into any alliances whatsoever, remaining completely neutral and does not declare nor enter into any wars unless declared war upon by a foreign power. Sainte Marie is a neutral trading port open to anyone and everyone for trade, it's a place where foreign allies and rivals may trade peacefully, and Madagascar intends to keep it that way.

Flag

The Malagasy flag has two horizontal bars of red and green, adjacent to a vertical white band on the left hoist side of the flag.

White: stands for peace between Madagascar and other nations.

Green: stands for the protection and preservation the of the Malagasy landscape.

Red: stands for the courage of the people.

Geography

Madagascar is the world's 4th largest island located outside of the Swahili Coast of Africa.

There are jungles on the eastern side, sprawling all the way to the northernmost tip of the island.

Although Madagascar is famous for its Baobab trees, very few are found in EMC Madagascar.

In the centre of the island are the central highlands, relatively low vegetation grows there and it's known for its red soil.

The western side of the island is lush, with swampy forests and jungles scattered over the landscape.  The geographic isolation contributed to Madagascar's abundance of endemic flora and fauna.

Territorial Claims

Madagascar's Territorial Claims are divided into two separate categories: Homeland Territory and Colonial Territory.

Homeland Territory

Homeland Territory is defined as being core territory, land which is classed as Madagascar proper. The claim to these territories are permanent and do not change, as such any towns inside these territories that are apart of other nations are classed as invasive.

The Homeland Territories are as follows:

• The Island of Réunion
• The Island of Mauritius
• The Island of Europa

Colonial Territory

Colonial Territory is defined as being territory which has been settled on by Madagascan towns and/or is claimed by Madagascar, but is outside of the Homeland Territory. As such, Madagascar is willing to allow other nations to settle towns in these locations, provided negotiations take place first and the area being claimed is not in close proximity to an existing Madagascan town, therefore the boundaries of these territories fluctuate somewhat.

The Colonial Territories are as follows:

• The Coastline of Mozambique (10 chunks inland is the land border of this territory)
• The Comoros Archipelago
• The Mayotte Archipelago
• The Seychelles Archipelago
• The Island of Rodrigues
• Barrow Island
• The Montebello Archipelago

Infrastructure

Traditionally, Madagascar's national infrastructure was deemed to be extremely poor for a developed nation, with a mix-match of roads, overground ice roads and underground ice roads of all different heights and design accounting for the only way to get around Madagascar, other than the sea. This is part of the reason why most Madagascan towns, particularly those in the north, are located along the shore.

Change is coming, however. A new national highway scheme is currently underway, aimed at connecting almost every mainland Madagascan town to a single, highly developed road network based around 2 main highways: the East Coast Highway and the West Coast Highway, along with various smaller branches to open up the Madagascan north and interior to development. This project includes the demolition of all above ground ice roads, which were extremely dangerous to travel on, the extension of Tsalbarivo's regional highway to become the West Coast Highway, the construction of an entirely new route along the East Coast and extensive wilderness repairs and restoration around the highways. So far, all overground ice roads have been demolished, a lengthy section of the WCH that runs between Tsivory and Solace, an even lengthier section of the ECH that runs from RMNB_Antsevao all the way to Farpoint and an overpass that connects the two has been completed, along with ongoing wilderness restoration. It is hoped that, by the end of this project, traveling between towns will be far easier, and inland towns will be a far more appealing prospect for players looking to create new towns.

Another piece of infrastructure is the regional Tsalbarivo Subway, an underground ice road network, which is being extended to connect to RMNB_Antsevao, Solace and Trondro with the intention of becoming the West Coast Ice Road Network, an underground ice road network that compliments the West Coast Highway, designed for more secure travel between the western towns.

Towns

Sainte_Marie - Capital

Sainte_Marie is the capital city of Madagascar and is currently the oldest town in the nation. The land is where Poppy first stepped on land to found the nation of Madagascar. She spawned in China, walked over the Himalayas, through the jungle of India, and boated to Madagascar's shore. The unclaimed settlement, created by PoppyKai, was later claimed by aTerraAustralis, formerly The_Pock, to become the nation's capital. It is visited by tourists often, for the marketplace, grinder, free food, and for the resort feel. The town is also widely known for its distinct and modern housing as well as other points of interest such as an aquarium, museum, parkour course, national library, harbor and parliament house where elections are held.

Tsalbarivo

One of only two cities in Madagascar, the other being Sainte Marie, Tsalbarivo was once 3 separate towns that merged over time. On April 13th 2019, Barbtopia and Masoarivo merged, becoming the City of Barbsoarivo. The district of Tsalograd was later integrated and the city's name was changed for the final time to Tsalbarivo. It is unique in Madagascar for its the only town that was created through the merging of separate towns, has skyscrapers, has an international airport and has a large underground ice road metro. Some points of interest in Tsalbarivo include Bisk Tower, the parkour course, Laguna beach, and its oriental Chinatown.

EcoHaven

The ecological city of Madagascar founded by KrazyZebraBoy it is located in the center of the island, it's a peaceful and warm town where life is good. It is one of the largest cities in Madagascar. The most notable building in EcoHaven is the Horse Stadium! Since June 15, 2020 the current mayor of EcoHaven is SgtPaul. Running through it is one of the oldest roads on the island, the Barbtopia - Sainte Marie Highway, an andesite road with a large and distinct curve which was vital in connecting the two main regions of Madagascar.

Sirana

Sirana and the floating island

Sirana was created by the chancellor add___123 on the most northern part of the island, it is infamous for its island in the sky that took a long time to create. The sky island itself is remarkable in that it holds the nation's biggest flag, biggest maze, and an aquarium. It has a canal going through the town enabling visitors to reach the inner city by boat, or by swimming as it has the dolphin swim effect. 

Solace (formerly Vavatenina)

Solace was founded on the 10th of December, 2018 by the mayor, DedS3c. It was founded in between the towns of Soalala and Tsalbarivo. Nanamii became the new mayor of Vavantenina and has renamed it Solace.

PembaCoast

The 2nd town IEatDookie made in Madagascar, it is a town made on the ruins of the once town of Pemba.

Farpoint

A rather unique town founded by 2theMAXofficial originally named GSS_People_Power, and later renamed first to Fox_Magic and then to Farpoint, the entire town once resided within a massive space shuttle before expanding onto the mainland, where a variety of 'Cliffside Condos' are situated within the notoriously mountainous terrain of northern Madagascar. Farpoint would go on to reclaim Paralia once it fell to inactivity.

Reunion

The town is on the French island of Réunion, created on the 23rd of November, 2018 by FatBeard. Reunion is the first neighbor island to be claimed by Madagascar. After being owned by different players over time, this town has been reclaimed by BreachDGates on October 8th, 2020 and it has been completely flattened with the exception of a small mountain in the northwestern part of the island. Reunion, currently unfinished, is linked with Sainte Marie and the neighboring Mauritius with an ice road. The island features some creations such as a restaurant, a cave and a beach, all named after EMC players. The island is also home to a shop which sells fishing drops and some embassy houses built in a modern style: some of these house owners joined the town alongside with notable and established players who often change towns. For this reason, in late December 2020 Reunion was the biggest town of Madagascar by number of residents (max 20). Reunion has gone on to claim the Islands of Mauritius, Rodrigues, Barrow and Bali, as well as part of mainland Australia, all of which (aside from Mauritius) are officially Madagascan Colonies.

RMNB_Antsevao

The industrial heartland of Madagascar, the Royal Madagascan Naval Base Antsevao is a very unique town in that it is by far the largest industrial dockyard on the server and one of only a few industrial-based towns on the entire server. It is home to the vast majority of the steadily-growing Madagascan Navy, officially called the Royal Malagasy Navy, which happens to be the largest navy on the server. It hosts two drydocks, the largest of which is large enough to comfortably fit the largest warship ever built on the server to date - the former Aircraft Carrier HMS Jutland of the British Royal Navy. Both of the drydocks are currently occupied, however, by the Battleship RMNS C.Eagle and the Coastal Defence Battleship RMNS Reunion. The town is also host to a small residential area where workers and residents live. There were plans to found it on the north coast above Tsalbarivo, however the waters there were deemed to be too shallow to allow anything larger than a Destroyer to be moored there without extensive underwater excavation, so a relatively flat location was chosen on the east coast instead, situated south of Tsalbarivo.

Canvas_Fields

Canvas Fields was created by Radnor7 to claim over a fallen town, before it was soon decided to create two canvases over the irreparable wilderness for Madagascans and friendly players to make use of.

Tsivory

Tsivory is a peaceful town situated on the southern coast of Madagascar, occupying the space where New_Tolanaro once stood. It was founded by partypig678 and hosts a style of architecture best described as being "both modern and of a time gone by'

Europa_Island

Europa Island was founded by MaximalMegaminx and is located in the Mozambique Channel, directly east of RMNB_Antsevao. It consists of a small island and an enormous underwater structure which the Museum of Everything calls home.

Trondro

Trondro, the third edition, was founded by iRadioo to create a new metropolis in the south west of Madagascar, a historically heavily griefed area, and to claim the few good sections of wilderness around there for preservation. It has rapidly grown since creation thanks to hosting multiple recruiters and having access to Madagascar's National Reserve, which exists primarily to help achieve the national goal of claiming the entire island.

Notable Fallen Towns:

Coffee Bay

Coffee Bay is a town that was founded near the tip of Africa, by Destined2BGreat, TypicalNevin, and Moshmallows on the 6 of December 2018.  The town was the expanded by the founder and later more people would join. The town population peaked at 12 people. The town was later attacked by Madagascar and the leaders were forced to give the town away to Adaster54 who later sold the town to Madagascar.

Astronutica

Astronutica was a town in the central, mountainous region of Madagascar. Its mayor was Cool_dude_1001 and it was founded on the 9th of December, 2018. Its train station served as a central intersection for all traffic on Madagascar, and it is therefore of vital importance. It is also the location where you could find one of the biggest aquariums on earth at the time, filled with coral and reaching high up in the sky.

This town has since been reclaimed by Ecohaven to preserve its beauty and protect it from griefing after it had fallen.

A town on the mainland of Africa made by kysnoun on October 21, 2019. The current mayor of the town is CHWDP.

Midas

A town created by Rockiesguy100 that sat on the east coast of Madagascar. It is located in a strategic position. Its name came from King Midas in Greek mythology who loved gold.

New_Tolanaro

New Tolanaro

A town founded by MasterFaustino on May 10, 2019, ownership would later be passed onto XWereWolfX56. The town was located south coast of Madagascar which is near Sainte_Marie. New Tolanaro had great sights like a museum, turtle shelter, town park, swimming pool, town shop, castle, and many more to see.

Paralia (formerly Kara Bay)

Paralia was a town that was founded by Queen Poppykai on October 27th, 2018, as one of the first 25 towns in EarthMC, and was located on the east coast of the northern part of the island, the previous town name was Kara_bay, and after the mayor, FoxFantastic, passed the leadership to JoniAlt and CrSalmon, they changed the town name to Paralia, also means beach in greek.

Trondro (Old)

A town with a rich history. Founded on June 2019 by Adamer26. It was formerly called Soalara, but the name was changed in December 2019. The town fell in September 2020, was reclaimed on 20th of May 2021 but would later go on to fall again.

Kareby

A town formerly on the mainland of Africa in southern Mozambique on the coast. It was founded by Blaiez on February 15, 2020. Its name came from Blaiez own home town. The proudest building in Kareby is the spawn that took inspiration from US congress. You can read more on the wiki of Kareby.

Notable Landmarks

Parliament Avenue

Better known as the Madagascan Shopping Street, Parliament Avenue is a wide avenue that runs from the Food Arch right in front of /n spawn to the Madagascan Parliament Building and is lined on either side by shops selling all sorts of items. The Centre of Parliament Avenue changes every few months to a new design, depending on season and what is deemed to be the current trend. Thousands of players have been to Parliament Avenue over the course of Terra Nova's existence, mainly to shop at Madagascar's infamous shopping district.

The Rova Museum of Cultural and Political History.

The Rova, situated in Sainte_Marie, holds the most prized items of Malagasy culture and growth, as well as artifacts from players, towns and nations from across the server. In addition to this, it pays tribute to longer-standing towns and nations of EMC, as well as those who spend much time playing the game. The Rova is only open to players via private tours given by PoppyKai due to various players in the past who have used exploits to take items from The Rova.

The Museum of Everything

A museum of (almost) everything in the server, owned by MaximalMegaminx originally in his town Anjouan, then relocated to Sainte Marie before being relocated again to his new town of Europa Island. This museum has everything from Fix's head and a Trident to more common items like cobblestone. It truly has (almost) everything!

Tsalbarivo International Airport

Tsalbarivo International is one of the largest airports on the server. Although it only has a single runway, its runway is long enough to accommodate aircraft of considerable size such as the TU-144, aka the Soviet Concorde, which is one of two aircraft that can currently be found there. The Terminal itself is also quite considerable in size, and accommodates everything an International Airport could possibly need.

The Malagasy Drydock

Located in the RMNB Antsevao, the Malagasy Drydock is the largest drydock on the entire server, built to fit the former HMS Jutland with room to spare. It is a feat of excavation and engineering and is a perfect display of the Madagascan citizens' dedication to their projects. Currently the Malagasy Class Battleship RMNS C.Eagle is residing in the drydock, a perfect opportunity to see the hull of a mighty behemoth that is a Madagascan Capital Ship.

Founding Photo

Founding, November 2018

The nation was founded on the 10th of November, 2018 under the leadership of aTerraAustralis, and was the 12th official nation to be formed on Terra Nova. CloakedEagle was the original mastermind behind the nation, but while on break, aTerraAustralis stepped up to fill in for him as leader of the nation.

Byzantium Incident, November 2018

On the 19th of November, 2018, there was a small skirmish between Madagascar and Byzantium. The Malagasy King aTerraAustralis and the resident Catnipseverbeen approached the Byzantium Empress Florene after multiple requests for her to leave the island. This was because she had been spotted going down the west coast of Madagascar and collecting clay without informing any official. Due to her refusal to leave, she was attacked by aTerraAustralis and Catnipseverbean. She was chased in the water by Catnips in a boat, and aTerraAustralis swimming behind her. She teleported out near the Maldives.

The Coffee Bay Conflict, December 2018

The Coffee Bay Conflict began on the 9th of December 2018, when Coffee Bay resident Moshmallows murdered PoppyKai outside Toerana, the nation's capital. Coffee Bay was kicked out of the nation and a siege was planned on the town itself. aTerraAustralis, catnipseverbean, add__123 and Westono sailed to the town and killed Moshmallows. Nowadays the ex Coffee Bay residence created a Nation in America and now are allied with Madagascar.

Change in Leadership, December 2018

After growing discontent, the leader of Madagascar at the time, aTerraAustralis, held a poll on his leadership. This ended in 1 voting for him to remain, and 5 voting him out. In response to this, he wrote up his resignation letter.

To The Malagasy People and Parliament

This letter formalizes my resignation as the Head Chancellor of the Kingdom of Madagascar.

I am resigning from the position of Chancellor for multiple reasons:

1.  Public support for my resignation in a recent vote which has prompted me to write this letter. - I don’t hate anyone who supported my resignation, except for Bean, fuck Bean.

2.   A growing feeling of distrust between myself and a fellow Chancellor, PoppyKai over a variety of topics which I shall not delve into at this moment in time.

I I did this to keep the Kingdom intact as I do not wish to see it torn apart by internal strife, notably by myself. I’ve been in this situation before and it ended in myself and my partner falling out and ripping up the nation. This is not something I want to happen for the nation I have worked so hard for. Upon my resignation, my name within the constitution shall be replaced with that of “CloakedEagle” as he takes my place as Chancellor and Head Chancellor of the Kingdom of Madagascar. I will be mostly residing within my camp as Tea Bay, which will remain a member of the nation unless it is removed by a Chancellor or voted out by Parliament. The resignation will take effect within the next 24 hours. This can only be cancelled if CloakedEagle is unable to receive the position, in which case parliament will have to converse and vote on what

to do. This must be accepted regardless of their result, even if it means the cancellation of this resignation letter and my continuation as a Malagasy Chancellor.

Infrastructural Project, February-March 2019

Leader The_Pock had requested a complex railroad system connecting the various towns on the Island of Madagascar, and an underground network was under construction during late 2018, during the first months of Madagascar's existence.

However, sometime around late February 2019 - early March 2019, King CloakedEagle ordered the construction of a new type of railroad network above ground, on bridges. CloakedEagle, the newbie Barbasmas (now an old boyo), and Pr0killer built much of the bridge in sandstone in substantially less time than expected.

Controversies

These railroad bridges are the optimal design of the railroad, built by a previous citizen.

As the construction of the railway demanded great amounts of sandstone, citizen Barbasmas thought it would be a good idea to excavate the deserts of Oman outside the capital of the Seljuk_Empire. Within days, the exploitation led to environmental change in the area - making the sand desert into a stone desert. Barbasmas also wrote his own username and "HI" in the sand, visible from satellites orbiting around the earth. This frustrated the Seljuk_Empire nation leader john_yuki and Chancellor PoppyKai sent an apology on behalf of the nation and a ticket to rewind the desert was made on the 2nd of March 2019. Barbasmas said the following about the incident:

"Well in hindsight maybe that was a dumb move but i was determined to make the bridges asap and liked the organized excavation. My most sincere apology goes out to all Seljuks and I promise to invite u all to dinner"  - Barbasmas 2nd March 2019

The minecart rail system was later completely torn down and replaced by ice roads due to the slowness of the minecarts, which made them an inefficient method of transport in comparison to iceroads, iceroads essentially being the rail system of emc.

June 23rd Riots, June 2019

On the 23rd June 2019, dozens of people protested in Saint Marie as a result of tensions regarding its pricing of items, the spawn shop being too popular (coming out on top of all the EMCL shop polls) as well as allegations that it's leader CloakedEagle apparently deleted memes about Madagascar. As of now, the riots have concluded due to a peace agreement made between the old Victorian leader MagicCouncil, Manchurian King Mr_X1234 with both parties stating they started the protest due to boredom on the server. MagicCouncil later bragged that he had been using an exploit to steal gold and valuable items from the main spawn shop in Madagascar.

The Scuffle in Madagascar, June 2019

On June 24th, 2019 at around 12:40 P.M. EST, A small Manchurian raiding party attacked 2 Malagasy players in the area near the west coast of Madagascar. A fight ensued, resulting in the death of a Malagasy player. The remaining Malagasy player retreated into claims while taking fire and attempting to fight back from claims. A few hours after, Mr_X1234, the Manchurian King, Declared war on Madagascar and soon after a large party (7 people) arrived in Madagascar. Since Madagascar is a peaceful nation, no Malagasy players fought, so Mr_X and his soldiers left.

Catnipseverbean's plan to take over Africa

The Founding of the Rebel Nation of Merina, December 2019

Sometime in early December 2019, date unclear, the player Catnipseverbean created a new nation on the Island of Madagascar called Merina, as a show of force against the nation of Madagascar, which had previously voted to kick his town out of the nation due to extreme toxicity in game and on discord.

'Catnip has made his nation on the island. For many of you who are new to our nation, he was in our nation for quite some time but because he was so toxic and didn't like our rules, was voted out of the nation. If he is logged in, I'd be careful walking around his town. His favourite past time is to kill players for loot. Please do not do any harm to his area, surrounding land, or talk with or about him in global. He tends to strike back with venom and I don't want that in global chat against our nation. He really isn't that active so I doubt he will stick around long. Making a nation was his show of "force". We choose to leave him alone.' - Announcement sent by Poppy, December 7th 2019

Poppy's Summer Break and Krazy's Ascension to the Madagascan Throne, June 2020

On the 7th of June 2020, PoppyKai announced that she would be stepping down as Queen for a while as she needed a break. In the meantime, _Krazy_, who was mayor of EcoHaven at the time, was appointed King of Madagascar. Krazy served from June 15th 2020 to September 14th 2020, when he would step down due to irl reasons and Poppy would resume joint ownership of the Madagascan throne with CloakedEagle. It has been that way ever since.

Political Parties (Old)

There were many political views in Madagascar. As a result, there were many Political Parties in Madagascar, although this has not stopped Madagascans from getting along with one another without a problem.

Green Extremist Party

It was started by Pr0killer and saw a rapid increase in members, since the elections were coming up on the 13th of July 2019. The party is the most popular with the Malagasy people, and with the current queen PoppyKai, but she isn't with the party. The leader of the party is JoniAlt, the rest is unknown. JoniAlt gained 42.3% of the votes on the 13th of July 2019 and therefore lost to Barbasmas (57.7%) for the post of Economic Minister. Barbasmas felt bad afterward and made him vice-minister. In the next elections, JoniAlt won and became the 3rd minister of Economics in Madagascar. JoniAlt has also announced his quit of political life, yet he will continue supporting the nation.
