Kantbyen is a small city in Svalbard.

History[]

Earlier Occupation[]

Sos-Kablyat

The City of Sos-Kablyat

The site in which Kantbyen is located has been occupied at least since April of 2019, and was known to have been owned by ancient Svalbard in the city of Icemoor. After Icemoor was abandoned, the city of Sos-Kablyat was founded by some of Fuze's fans. The town was abandoned shortly before Svalbard was refounded, and left unoccupied for 2 months.

Svalbard's Expansion and the Town of Edge[]

Shortly after Svalbard was founded, it entered a period of rapid growth in which the population and number of towns grew drastically. Along with Barentsburg and another relatively unknown town, a city known as Edge was planned to be founded in Edgeoya. Responding to this news, a former slum dweller named Santacruiser left his home in Fort Worth to found the city as Kantbyen, eventually succeeded.

Early Development[]

Kantbyen faced issues with the poor administration of Sos-Kablyat and the rough terrain of Negerpynten. The town struggled to expand, and took months to bring in its first resident. Regardless, the town was forced to demolish and rebuild the old town hall. 3 houses were later built, while the town expanded its roads and completely absorbed all territory owned by Sos-Kablyat. This was assisted by a large influx of gold discovered in an old Kazakhstani city, leading to the city briefly becoming wealthy.

The Nordaustlandet Dispute[]

When the nation of Nordaustlandet was proclaimed May 7, 2020, the city joined it the same day. Kantbyen was among the most influential cities in Nordaustlandet, and was highly influential at the time. The town joined Svalbard once again shortly after the nation reunited.

Further Development[]

The city continued to gradually grow in size as time went on. On July 7, 2020, Kantbyen Castle was constructed, preparing the city for any future conflict. Two days later, the Kantbyen Museum started construction, and was finished on July 14.

Buildings[]

The Jarlhus[]

Built on the old town hall, the Jarlhus is the oldest building in Kantbyen, and serves as a residence for the mayor.

Originally an informal building within the town's iceroad, the Kantbyen Museum was later moved to Eastern Kantbyen and fully constructed. The Museum contains a variety of artifacts from Svalbard's history, in addition to a multitude of other curiosities and historical items.

Icemoor[]

The ruins of Icemoor are still present in Kantbyen, and are opened for visitors.
